About us · since 2006
Our story
New Dawn began with a simple observation: too many people in our community needed someone to talk to — and couldn't afford it.
Where we began
From Rachamin to New Dawn
In 2002, a group of local Christians in Beeston saw that professional counselling was out of reach for many of the people around them — and decided to do something about it. They founded a small counselling service called Rachamin, built on two simple values: caring and listening.
From 2006, that small service has grown into New Dawn Counselling Centre — a diverse team of qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, student counsellors, and volunteers. The name has changed. The heart of it hasn't.
How we're run
Not-for-profit, on purpose
We're built so that the money always flows back towards the people who need help — never away from them.
A Community Interest Company
New Dawn is a not-for-profit CIC. That's a legal commitment, not a slogan — the centre exists to serve the community, and it always will.
Overseen by counsellors
Our board of directors are all qualified counsellors themselves. The people making the decisions understand the work — because they do it.
A bursary is available
Our bursary fund is there to help people who couldn't otherwise afford counselling.
Community Interest Company
What we mean by CIC
New Dawn is a Community Interest Company (CIC).
The business of New Dawn is overseen by a board of directors who are all qualified counsellors.
The chair and vice chair of the board change on an annual basis, and all counsellors can put themselves forward for election onto the board.
The whole team of counsellors, students and volunteers give their time freely to take on various roles and attend regular meetings that ensure the smooth day-to-day running of New Dawn Counselling Centre.
"A listening community — working in the community, for the community."

What we believe
New Dawn was founded on Christian values of care and welcome, and those values still shape how we treat every single person who walks through the door. In practice, it's simple: we're open to everyone, with faith and none — we're here to listen. If you'd like to know more about what that means, read about our ethos.
