A listening community needs people
Get involved
New Dawn runs on more than counselling skills. Volunteers, students on placement, counsellors hiring rooms and people who give a little — they all keep this place going. Here's how you could be part of it.
Volunteer with us
Be the first friendly face people meet
Our volunteer receptionists and admin helpers are often the first contact someone has with the centre — and a warm welcome at that moment matters more than you might think.
Depending on the role, you might be:
- Welcoming clients as they arrive
- Answering the phone and taking messages
- Helping with day-to-day admin
We're looking for people with a gentle, patient manner who are comfortable on the phone — sometimes with callers who are in distress. You don't need any counselling background: full training and ongoing support are given.
Student placements
Train with a team that will look after you
Counselling students, we'd love to hear from you
We regularly host counselling students on supervised placements. You'll gain real client hours in a well-established centre, alongside an experienced, supportive team — and your lower-fee sessions help make counselling affordable for more people.
How to apply
Email us with the details of your training course, your year of study and your contact details, and we'll get back to you.
Placements are popular, so a waiting list operates — it's worth getting in touch early.

Room hire
A calm, professional space for your practice
If you're an external counsellor or an organisation looking for a welcoming venue, our building on Beeston High Road may be just what you need.
- Six dedicated counselling rooms at £11 per hour — some set up for working with children, families and couples.
- A large training room seating up to 20, ideal for groups, workshops and training days. Price depends on your requirements — just ask.
To book, email us and we'll send you an application form.

A small gift goes a long way
Donations to our bursary fund go straight towards sessions for people who couldn't otherwise afford counselling — and you can also donate to the general running of the centre. Contact us if you'd like to make a donation. Read about the bursary fund.
Come and be part of it
Whether you can give an hour a week, a student year, or a few pounds to the bursary fund — we'd love to hear from you.
Calls answered Monday and Tuesday evenings — otherwise, please email.
